Summary

Rediscover the superpower that makes good things happen, from the professor behind Yale School of Management's most popular class

“The new rules of persuasion for a better world。”—Charles Duhigg, author of the bestsellers The Power of Habit and Smarter Faster Better

You were born influential。 But then you were taught to suppress that power, to follow the rules, to wait your turn, to not make waves。 Award-winning Yale professor Zoe Chance will show you how to rediscover the superpower that brings great ideas to life。

Influence doesn’t work the way you think because you don’t think the way you think。 Move past common misconceptions—such as the idea that asking for more will make people dislike you—and understand why your go-to negotiation strategies are probably making you less influential。 Discover the one thing that influences behavior more than anything else。 Learn to cultivate charisma, negotiate comfortably and creatively, and spot manipulators before it’s too late。 Along the way, you’ll meet alligators, skydivers, a mind reader in a gorilla costume, Jennifer Lawrence, Genghis Khan, and the man who saved the world by saying no。

Influence Is Your Superpower will teach you how to transform your life, your organization, and perhaps even the course of history。 It’s an ethical approach to influence that will make life better for everyone, starting with you。

I first recommended Influence is Your Superpower back in December, when it was still in galley form, but a lot has changed since then。 The book was launched last Tuesday, and is available in hardcover, on Audible, and as a Kindle download。 In just under a week it has skyrocketed to the top of many lists—and with good reason。Those who know me know I wouldn't recommend something I didn't think is absolutely wonderful。 This is it。 The best thing is that it's not a book you have to read through from I first recommended Influence is Your Superpower back in December, when it was still in galley form, but a lot has changed since then。 The book was launched last Tuesday, and is available in hardcover, on Audible, and as a Kindle download。 In just under a week it has skyrocketed to the top of many lists—and with good reason。Those who know me know I wouldn't recommend something I didn't think is absolutely wonderful。 This is it。 The best thing is that it's not a book you have to read through from start to finish。 Each chapter, in essence, is it's own mini-book, and each chapter is written so engagingly as to be not only a fun read, but full of incredibly valuable information that can apply to anyone at any stage of their life and career。Go order it; and buy one for a friend or colleague。 I really think you'll agree。 I daresay you'll be thanking me soon。 。。。more

I'm not the sort of person who normally picks up a book on persuasion, but Influence is Your Superpower, like the alternative subtitle says ('how to get what you want without compromising who you are'), helps you maintain integrity while becoming a person people want to listen to。 I love that the recommendations are backed up by behavioural science research and all the citations are in the back so you can source check the claims later。 Zoe Chance also has a quirky and humorous writing style that I'm not the sort of person who normally picks up a book on persuasion, but Influence is Your Superpower, like the alternative subtitle says ('how to get what you want without compromising who you are'), helps you maintain integrity while becoming a person people want to listen to。 I love that the recommendations are backed up by behavioural science research and all the citations are in the back so you can source check the claims later。 Zoe Chance also has a quirky and humorous writing style that keeps things real。 She is quick to voice the doubts you might have circulating in your head and answers them on the spot so that there's no excuses for putting her ideas into action。 Looking forward to the sequel! 。。。more

I teach a class on Power and Influence to MBA students and I'm definitely adding this book, and the lessons it teaches, to my lesson plan。 It's an engaging read, but more importantly, based on evidence。 It will be right at home next to Cialdini's classic。 I teach a class on Power and Influence to MBA students and I'm definitely adding this book, and the lessons it teaches, to my lesson plan。 It's an engaging read, but more importantly, based on evidence。 It will be right at home next to Cialdini's classic。 。。。more

This book is as well constructed as any I have ever read。 Prof。 Chance adeptly weaves together personal experience, academic research, practical examples and colorful narrative into a series of mind changing transformative lessons learned。 This is the kind of read you will find yourself referencing back to over and over again。 Funny, factual and magically charming content。

This book is a masterpiece to understand, first yourself in regards to unconscious thinking, and then whoever you would like to influence: your client, a colleague, your partner, and maybe even your pet。Reading it was enjoyable from start to end, with simple and familiar examples anyone can follow, even the most complex learnings from her own doctoral research。

This book can change your life。 Influence is an incredibly powerful tool, but we tend to misunderstand how to harness it。 The reason is a misconception of how we come to hold certain beliefs and do what we do。 In short; we are nowhere near as rational as we think。 Zoe Chance demonstrates this through compelling stories grounded in scientific research。 But where this books shines the most is in demonstrating how influence can be used for good。 Zoe asks us to be aware of our incredible super power This book can change your life。 Influence is an incredibly powerful tool, but we tend to misunderstand how to harness it。 The reason is a misconception of how we come to hold certain beliefs and do what we do。 In short; we are nowhere near as rational as we think。 Zoe Chance demonstrates this through compelling stories grounded in scientific research。 But where this books shines the most is in demonstrating how influence can be used for good。 Zoe asks us to be aware of our incredible super power and use it to not settle for “good enough”。 Instead, you can and should leverage this gift in creative and joyful ways to make a better life for yourself AND others!Edit: very happy to have gotten an advance copy of this book。 I also had the pleasure of taking Zoe’s immensely popular class at Yale and can testify she lives by the principles she advocates。 。。。more

Zoe Chance's first book largely takes everything anyone has known about her -- that she is a master of influence and persuasion-- but she provides the manual into her own superpower。 That unto itself is the most "Zoe Chance" thing she could do: she shares anecdotes that will keep you flipping through the pages, but each is backed by science。 She may be persuasive in part because she is entirely relatable。 As self-helpy as the title may seem in some ways, it's not really a guide to motivating and Zoe Chance's first book largely takes everything anyone has known about her -- that she is a master of influence and persuasion-- but she provides the manual into her own superpower。 That unto itself is the most "Zoe Chance" thing she could do: she shares anecdotes that will keep you flipping through the pages, but each is backed by science。 She may be persuasive in part because she is entirely relatable。 As self-helpy as the title may seem in some ways, it's not really a guide to motivating and conquering the world as it is to becoming -- and staying -- a better human。 That's something we could all use。 。。。more
